I’m Daniel Dorman, a content creator in the Marion/Cedar Rapids, Iowa area. I’ve been working professionally for over 15 years in the fields of music and audio production, video production, training/e-learning, and graphic and web design. I’m always striving to improve, learn new skills, and find better or more efficient ways of doing things.

Working with small businesses, non-profits, and entrepreneurs is a privilege I am grateful to have. I meet many amazing people and have the opportunity to learn about a wide variety of things I otherwise wouldn’t. Connecting with people and learning how together we can best meet their goals and create quality products is my passion.

Training and e-learning are ever-present in today’s world. While not everyone has the corporate resources to build out an extensive training program - many businesses still need to train employees and educate customers on their products. I have 10 years of experience in the training industry, helping create content in everything from Human Resources, compliance, and the financial industry to how-to’s for agricultural drones and music gear.

I’ve worked with multiple LMS (learning management systems) and am experienced at building training modules including:

Recording music is where I got my start, and will always be one of my passions. Over the years, I’ve expanded my sound skills to include location sound recording for video and film, live sound production, voice-over recording and editing, and mixing/editing for post-production. From a single voice or instrument in a studio, rock bands and jazz concerts, to full orchestral productions - I have experience recording and mixing just about every style of music or stage performance. I’m trusted to handle audio for nationally recognized artists and non-profits, respected local venues, and well-known production companies.

Voice-over. Singer-songwriters. Rock bands. Music auditions. There’s many different things that benefit from a quality recording in a good sounding space. Wether it’s in a purpose built recording space, or setting up in a theater, church, or basement - I have a curated collection of microphones and recording equipment to get the job done. From a single voice to a choir full of them, a piano audition to a jazz combo, and acoustic guitar to a rock band - I’ve mic’d up them all!

Sound quality matters, it’s half of your film. Too often videographers and filmmakers put all their effort into the visual aspect, and neglect the audio production. Getting sound good at the source is important - but often time there are unavoidable issues when shooting on location.

I have over 10 years of experience in boom operating and recording sound for video and know how to work a production team. Placing mics where they can’t be seen but still sound good can take a bit of black magic. I’d love to work with you on your next film or video project.

Once you’ve got your footage shot, it then needs to be edited and mixed. That’s one of my favorite things to do. Inevitably, there’s going to be background noises, or strange mouth noises in your favorite take. Fortunately, I’m skilled at removing as much of that as possible and being sure the dialogue is clear and legible.

Whether you need your entire project edited and mixed, or just cleaning up a great take with less than perfect sound, I have the tools and skills to help you achieve great sounding audio!

I worked on “The Bridge”, a short film by Courtney Ball and directed by Adam Orton. Location recording, sound editing and mixing were done by me.
